The Martin Klein Award for the Development and Application of Technology in Support of Underwater Archaeology provides support in the amount of $1,000 (USD) for an individual in response to the development and use of technology in the service of underwater archaeology. Martin Klein, D.Sc., “The Father of Side Scan Sonar,” is the founder of Klein Associates (now Klein Marine Systems) and developed the first commercially successful side scan sonar system. He has been a long-time member of ACUA and currently serves on the board as an Associate Emeritus Member. This award is to support innovative or new ways in applying or developing technology for the use in underwater or maritime archaeology.
