Why You Should Submit

Free Publication And Publicity

The Underwater Archaeology Proceedings is a yearly publication of the ACUA that highlights the work of underwater archaeologists presenting at the SHA Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology. As a bonus, you will receive a fully formatted PDF of your article ready for sharing or posting!

The Hard Work Is Done

You’ve already made your presentation, so all that remains is editing the content for publication, and sourcing any necessary figures. It’s a straightforward process, and ensures your work receives the recognition it deserves over the long term.

You Keep Your Work

Submission to the ACUA Proceedings does not prevent you from submitting similar work to a journal or other professional publication or volume. In fact, you may find that after you’ve completed work for the Proceedings, you’ll be far better prepared to submit similar content elsewhere.

How To Register

The registration process has changed slightly from prior years. You must now pre-register your intent to publish in the 2024 Proceedings.

Click on this Proceedings Registration link to complete your pre-registration.

Your submission will be reviewed by the editors and if accepted you will receive a link for the full registration. By submitting your pre-registration you acknowledge that you have read the Society for Historical Archaeology ethics statement and agree to uphold its provisions.

The preregistration process will require the following information: Lead author first and last name, lead author email address, article title, session title, and a maximum 100 to150-word abstract.

Detailed information for authors including manuscript preparation guidelines and required forms can be found at Author Guidelines and downloaded as PDF files. All authors are responsible for downloading and following these guidelines and completing the required forms.

Don’t Be Late

Author Registration Deadline: March 1
Author Manuscript Submission Deadline: March 22
Editors Return to Authors Deadline: April 19
Author Final Edits Deadline: May 10

Because the number of papers that can be published in the Proceedings is limited, the ACUA reserves the right to reject late or incomplete submissions. Be advised to be on time.

Also, please be assured that your email and other personal information provided on this form will be kept confidential and will ONLY be shared with the Editor and those involved in the Proceedings publication and layout.

What Happens Next?

After the close of author registration, you will be contacted by the Underwater Archaeology Proceedings Editors with additional information on submitting your paper and required forms. You can contact the Proceedings Editors with any questions, concerns, suggestions, or comments at:  proceedings@ACUAOnline.org

We look forward to working with you on the 2024 ACUA Underwater Archaeology Proceedings!
